Palio is one of the youngest villages in the suburban area of Kavala city. The area was known for the sandy beaches and the shallow waters. During the decade 1970-1980 and after the road was fully build, Palio was the place for summer vacation for city’s inhabitants. Why we use the name “Opalio”

From Wikipedia:

Opal

Is the national gemstone of Australia. There are two broad classes: the Precious and the common. The unique characteristic of the Precious opal is iridescence (opalescence: play-of-color is defined as “a pseudochromatic optical effect resulting in flashes of colored light from certain minerals, as they are turned in white light)

Modern references suggest that the name is adapted from the Sanskrit word úpala.

The three stories building was built during the 70’s and lies beside the central road (Melinas Merkuri 164) of the village of Palio. The apartment is in the third floor (there is of course an elevator). The view of the apartment is magnificent during all seasons. The phenomenon of iridescence, after a rainy day, was the inspiration for the name of our recently renovated apartment.
